Similar to Our Town, I found it very satisfying as I had just finished the last mystery only to discover the author had passed away some years ago. This book felt like a farewell to me.

I have always loved Anne George's "sisters mysteries" but "This One And Magic Life" is beyond wonderful. It makes me even more sad that we have lost this wonderful writer and can have no more books like this. As a person from Birmingham, Alabama, of course her books bring back memories, but this book is simply amazing in both the characters, and the story line. I am glad that I purchsed it, as I know I will read it many times.

I haven't complete the book yet but ann george is a great writer, I read all of the southern sisiers mystery. I am from Al and could realate to the areas. In face I live in town of Harpersville al. just below B'ham. It was a joy. I only wish they were more like this.
I live in Mobile, and I found myself smiling so many times while reading this I lost count. The writing flowed well, I liked how the author used the ghosts to tell the back story, and I found the story equal bits charming and harsh, just like real life.
I was a fan of Anne George's 'Southern Sisters' mysteries and was anxious to read this unrelated novel of hers. It was a good story and a good read, but I was a bit disappointed in it, felt that it could have been so much more. The mystery was compelling but oddly resolved.
But, all in all, it was a nice read , and I was sad to learn that Miss George passed away and that we will not be enjoying any more books by her.
I enjoyed this book because of the honesty it portrays. only in the south do they " just tell it like it is" from a dysfunctional upper class family, and the sadness of someone you love having a mental illness and so much truth about secrets and feelings all told by only someone that must be a true southerners.
I grew up in a little town called Fairhope. It was right on the Mobile Bay. Just a little ways from Fairhope was Point Clear with the famous Grand Hotel. I don't think there is a town called Harlow so maybe he just used Harlow instead of Fairhope. It sounds a lot like where I grew up and this book brought back fond memories of my childhood. I live in Alaska now. I still go back to visit all my relatives who still live there.
I love this book! I have read all of Anne Georges books and this is my favorite. This is my third time reading it. When I was a child I read " A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" several times and as a young adult I can't remember how many times I read "Lord of the Rings" and "the Hobbit". This book is right up there with all of those.
