When Queen of the Witches, Hecate, makes a sudden appearance in her home, Darlena is forced to choose her path, and she isn't the only one surprised when the word "Red" comes out of her mouth. Before, Darlena wasn't aware that Red magic existed, but it does, and her gaining knowledge of it is taking over her life from getting kicked out of school to possibly killing someone in a car accident. Red magic seems to point only to chaos, and Darlena will need all the help she can get if she wants to mess with that magic.

DAUGHTER OF CHAOS is an exciting, fast-paced, and brilliant novel. I love the entire world of witches that Jen McConnel created. The idea of the different sources of magic (White, Black, Green, and Red) is unique, and it's great learning more and more of the world as the story is told. I especially love how not only are Greek gods and goddesses incorporated, especially Aphrodite and her chaotic love spells, but different regional deities are as well showing the vastness of the world of witches. The mythology in it is well executed, and I can't wait to find out more of it in the next book (which I think there will be?).

Darlena is a sassy, but deeply kind-hearted main character, and I just love her. She is constantly trying to figure out what is right or wrong, and the shades of gray are endless and fascinating. I especially enjoy the romance between her and Justin, a completely swoony White witch. I really like his character's sense of justice, but also his sense of loyalty.

Overall, I really love DAUGHTER OF CHAOS. I hope that the series will continue, and I will be first in line to get a sequel to this amazing book.

A decent read
It's hard these days to come up with a story about magic that hasn't been done before. I really liked the combination of the gods with magic. For anyone who enjoys mythology, it's an interesting take. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!

I enjoyed reading this book. I am not sure if I will be buying the next one. This series just isn't for me.
I found the book on the social media book platform, Wattpad and was hooked from the moment I picked up the book. I read the first one and decided immediately to buy the other two books because I NEEDED to know how the story ended.

Its worth it! That's for sure. Goodluck to the author and her future works.
It started off kind of cheesy but got better. Sadly, the book took a nose dive with the development of the antagonist. Best friends to enemies in two seconds and a real cookie cutter character. Also if someone tries repeatedly to kill you and the people you love, you fight back and stop whining. If you have a second choice book, try it first.
Darlena is being pressured to make the choice every young witch has to make, whether to practice white magic which is pure magic , black magic which is evil or green magic which is a balance of the two . Darlena takes an unexpected road and chooses red magic when the queen of witches Hecate shows up at her house and demands she makes an decision. Red magic is about controlling chaos whether to prevent harm to people or tip the scales of chaos and cause more deaths.

Darlena learns through her patron goddess that love can cause the most chaos of all and can be the strongest magic. With betrayal by a close friend,at odd ends with a queen witch and another goddess coming into play to help Darlena mainly for her own gain. It is important for Darlena to find the rest of the red witches before everything gets out of control.
